Last night we decided to rent a couple DVDs and, since the living room is in the midst of rearranging, just go into the bedroom with the air conditioning and watch them on the laptop. We discovered that my TiBook 867 won't mount DVDs.
I swear this damn machine is cursed.
I can't be sure that I've actually used a DVD in the machine successfully since I got it back from Apple the last time. I think I have... I think I stuck in the Apple system disk that came with it to run Disk Utility. But I can't be sure. I do know that I haven't been able to mount a data DVD my friend Steve burned me. I assumed the DVD was just damaged.
The thing is that this machine mounts, reads from, and burns CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs just fine. What the holy hell?
I never had any problems with this drive before Apple replaced it when they did a major refurb of the machine. I didn't even ask them to replace the drive, since it was working perfectly (I thought.) But when it came back with the new screen, it had a new drive, too, and since it seemed to work fine on CDs, I didn't really worry about it.
Ugh. I hate computers.
If anyone out there has any ideas before I trundle off to Apple phone support once again, I'd be very interested to hear them.
